A CHAT WITH: JAMIE MORRISON

The School of Retail team caught up with ‘New Class of Retail’ alum and shoe store 2IC Jamie Morrison to chat about what gets him excited for the busy period and how he and his team are getting ready for the Christmas period.

SOR: What are you looking forward to this upcoming Christmas trade period?
JAMIE: “I am getting excited for the excitement that comes with Christmas shopping. People are always looking for advice and ideas on what to get their friends and family so we get to really engage with our customers.”

SOR: What have been your key challenges as a Manager in the lead up?
JAMIE: “We are still struggling to find crew. Our management team has been interviewing almost everyday to try and find some great Christmas / New Year casuals.”

SOR: What do you think customers will be wanting from their shopping experience in store this year?
JAMIE: “I think people will be looking to save money this year. They’ll be looking for good deals or extras they can receive when they make a purchase which is great for our KPIs as we have quite a few incentives in-store.”

SOR: What are you doing to motivate your teams and rev them up for the busy period ahead?
JAMIE: “We are making sure everyone is confident in each area of the store from the floor to the back room, making sure everyone knows the systems so its not super stressful later on down the track.”

SOR: What are your teams excited for?
JAMIE: “We are all pretty excited to see new faces in store and the general vibe we get living in a tourist town around Summer / Christmas / New Years.”

SOR: What things are you and your teams focusing on in order to ensure you can create a great shopping experience for your customers?
JAMIE: “We are encouraging each other to remember to introduce ourselves and ask customers for their names. We’re also making sure everyone has their eye on the prize when it comes to making sure the store looks good and all of our supplies like shopping bags etc are stocked up and efficiently placed to make the shopping experience effortless for team and customer.”
